It’s all about embellishments this season and wearing something new and different that we don’t already have in our wardrobes.
We are seeing sequins on bags, dresses, high heels and other accessories that help make a strong holiday statement.
The great thing about sequins right now is the ability to dress them down. Pairing sequins with denim or wearing them with knitwear is a new, fun, casual look. Sequins are always great to dress up for eveningwear by wearing a sparkling top with silk pants or a short skirt. This is one of our favorite looks for holiday parties!
Here are a few tips from BJ Wilson on how to pull off the sparkle-worthy trend:
- Mix and Match— If you want to go over the top with a stand out glitzy piece such as a sequin top or skirt, you need pair it with a simple piece like a plain blouse or solid skirt. The embellishment really needs to be the star of the outfit for a more modern look.
- Work an Accessory— If wearing a decked-out sequin top or jacket is too over-the-top for you, there are other options to glam up your outfit. Try carrying a sequin handbag with your outfit, something in color would be extra fabulous especially if you are wearing a basic color. Also try wearing a fun flat or high heel with sequin detail to top off that office look.
- Wear Simple Lines—When shopping for sequin pieces, remember to keep the lines simple. Sequin tops look best in a t-shirt shape paired back with a simple skinny or straight-legged pant and a high heel. Longer sequin tunics look great with leggings and boots.
- Look for Color—Sequins are not just available in black and gold. You can find a variety of sequin pieces in colors such as pink, blue, yellow, and red. Gold, bronze, silver, and winter white are also very common colors for sequin pieces with silver being the most popular. Subtle sequin touches are great but if you are really looking to make a statement, opt for a more unique colorful choice.
- Don’t Overdo It—One glitzy piece per outfit is a good rule to follow. You do not want to look like you are trying too hard to sparkle and it will help that one piece really stand out.

On September 4th, the TCU Horned Frogs will kick off their season in a game against Oregon State. While we are certain our hometown heroes will be victorious in the final score, they are sure to be sporting the Fall’s newest must have color…PURPLE! Fort Worth’s favorite college football team has already scored some “touchdowns” in terms of Fall fashion. Purple is standing out in all aspects of fashion this season. Whether it is in suede boots, messenger bags, nail polish, or the Horned Frogs’ football jerseys, purple is not going to go unnoticed!
Purple is a royal color that is associated with nobility, mystery, and spirituality. As you look at your wardrobe for Fall, make sure you see purple! Remember, your purple clothes don’t necessarily need a number on them to make a statement. It is the accent color that can be a basic color too. You can wear a deep eggplant with neutrals for an earthy conservative look or lighter purples to create a more romantic essence. So get with the program!
